- revolutionizing intercontinental travel WITH AFFORDABLE fares
- MILAN – ABU DHABI route starts from 2 JUNE 2025 At €99.99
- Offering the most sustainable option for flying
Wizz Air, Italy’s third largest and most environmentally sustainable airline globally* is excited to announce that it will base one of its brand new Airbus A321XLR (Extra Long Range) aircraft at Milan
Malpensa airport in June 2025, marking the beginning of a new era of intercontinental travel with the launch of a direct route to Abu Dhabi, UAE. This move enables Wizz Air to offer unbeatable fares, extending its affordability to intercontinental
travel while connecting more people, cultures, and economies. Tickets are already on sale on wizzair.com and Wizz Air’s official app from as low as €99.99**
Starting 2 June 2025, Wizz Air will operate its new direct route between Milan and Abu Dhabi daily, a flight over 7 hours. This route is the first of many offerings that will leverage the Airbus A321XLR’s extended range and efficiency, revolutionizing
intercontinental travel and making it more accessible than ever before. With fares starting from only €99.99, Wizz Air continues to deliver on its promise of making air travel affordable for all.
“The Airbus A321XLR is the most cost-efficient aircraft of its class and, given the enhanced range capability, it enables Wizz Air to connect the furthest destinations in its network and further expand it, connecting cultures and continents. We’re excited to unlock unbeatable fares for our customers on the newly announced route to Abu Dhabi, while offering the most sustainable option for flying.”- commented József Váradi, Wizz Air's Chief Executive Officer, during a press conference in Milan.
“We are already flying several 5-6 hour long ultra-low-cost routes with great satisfaction to our customers, and the XLR will extend our outstanding value proposition to 7–8-hour long flights.”
Underpinning Wizz Air’s commitment to more sustainable operations, Airbus A321XLR’s carbon intensity is estimated to be at least 30% less than that of other carriers on the same routes***.
The strategic decision to base the Airbus A321XLR in Milan reflects Wizz Air’s commitment to strengthen its Italian network and expand its reach. The introduction of this state-of-the-art aircraft is set to revolutionize the travel experience for
passengers, offering them direct access to distant destinations at significantly lower fares.
“Wizz Air’s decision to operate the first A321XLR based in Italy from Milan Malpensa confirms the airport’s role as an ideal platform for the development of innovative business models.”- said Armando Brunini, CEO of SEA Milan Airports. “This new type of aircraft will indeed allow us to diversify routes, increase capacity and seasonality of flights, and modify Malpensa’s offering on extended range routes. This development sets the stage for further growth in the airport’s non-European routes, consolidating its portfolio of air services, which includes 183 destinations in 78 countries.”
Since Wizz Air established its first base in Italy in 2020, it has introduced more than 50 new routes previously unserved in the market and created more than 1,000 direct jobs with the airline and over 100,000 in the associated industries****, thus supporting
local employment. Wizz Air’s on-time performance in Italy in the first seven months of 2024 has improved by 8% compared to the same period last year, and its completion rate reached 99.5% (+0.8 p.p.). This year the airline is sponsoring three
running events in major Italian cities, Milan, Rome and Venice, supporting the national runner community.
