- Maintains “B” rating despite strengthened scoring criteria
- A testament to Wizz Air’s ambitious CO2 intensity reduction strategy
Wizz Air, Europe’s most environmentally sustainable airline*, has maintained its “B” rating in the 2024 climate ranking by The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP. A CDP score is a rating that companies receive for their environmental transparency and commitment to climate change.
For the second consecutive year, Wizz Air has been awarded a "B" score by the CDP, recognizing the airline's dedication to reducing carbon emissions intensity and its comprehensive efforts to tackle climate challenges. This accolade highlights Wizz Air's top-tier performance in disclosing emission reduction initiatives and implementing robust risk management processes, governance, and environmental pricing strategies.
In 2024, the CDP updated its methodology to encompass a broader range of environmental issues beyond just carbon-related topics. The new criteria now emphasize how effectively companies manage climate-related risks and opportunities, their progress towards emissions reduction targets, and their overall environmental strategy.
The ranking comes as Wizz Air continues to make progress towards its target of reducing CO2 intensity by 25% by 2030. The airline is also playing a leading role in the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across its operations, conducting trial operations with SAF blend on its two routes ahead of ReFuelEU mandates.
Yvonne Moynihan, Corporate and ESG Officer at Wizz Air, said: “We are proud to once again be recognized by the Carbon Disclosure Project for our commitment to decarbonization. As the leading airline in carbon emission intensity reduction and climate disclosure, we recognize the critical role airlines must play in addressing environmental challenges and mobilising industry-wide change. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to making flying more environmentally responsible. Our mission is to educate our customers about the impact of aviation on the environment and to promote more sustainable travel practices. Recently, we surveyed our customers during an operational trial using sustainable aviation fuel. The results showed that our customers want to continue flying but in a more sustainable way”.
The CDP rating is widely recognised global ranking and is fully aligned with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures. The CDP has the largest environmental database in the world and is a tool for companies to measure, manage, and communicate their environmental impact and progress towards sustainability goals.
