The airline will increase the frequency of flights to 5 of its most popular destinations from Varna and will resume 4 routes in April.
Wizz Air, Europe’s most environmentally sustainable airline*, is celebrating the arrival of its second aircraft at its Varna Airport base. The occasion was marked at an official media event welcoming the first flight from Abu Dhabi to Varna. The airline has also announced the resumption of three routes from Varna to Frankfurt-Hahn, Nuremberg and Tel Aviv, along with an increase in frequency on five of its most attractive existing routes. From 29 April, Wizz Air will also operate a twice-weekly year-round route to Leipzig – the airport's first-ever year-round connection to this German city. With the addition of this aircraft, Wizz Air’s fleet in Bulgaria now totals 8 aircraft.
The launch of the new route to Abu Dhabi from Bulgaria’s seaside capital is yet another testament to the airline’s ambition to grow its presence on the Bulgarian market by expanding its network and offering more travel opportunities, as well as of the successful work of the event organizers, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management JSC, in enriching Varna Airport's flight portfolio. Flights are now operated three times per week, and tickets can be booked at wizzair.com or via the airline’s mobile app, starting from 142.99 BGN**.
At the joint event Wizz Air also announced an increase in the frequency of flights on five Varna routes. Starting from April 14, passengers will have more travel options from the seaside city to the following exciting destinations: Berlin, Dortmund, Memmingen, Hamburg (Germany), and Brussels Charleroi (Belgium). Tickets are already on sale at wizzair.com and via the official WIZZ app, with prices starting as low as 50.99 BGN**.
Among the official guests and speakers were Alexa Weber, Wizz Air Marketing & Communications Manager, Dr. Frank Quante, the CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management JSC, the District Governor of Varna, Prof. Dr. Andriyana Andreeva, and the Deputy Mayor of Varna, Snezhana Apostolova. During the official ceremony, they expressed their support for Wizz Air’s growing presence in the region and highlighted the importance of the new routes for boosting tourism and economic development in Northeastern Bulgaria.
Anastasia Novak, Wizz Air’s Corporate Communications Manager, commented: "Welcoming our second aircraft in Varna is an incredibly exciting moment for our entire team. This is not only an investment in expanding our network, but also in the local economy, the tourism industry, and Varna’s connectivity with Europe and beyond. We are happy to offer passengers even more convenient and affordable travel options directly from Bulgaria’s seaside capital, as well as to increase employment opportunities in the region. We are grateful to Varna Airport for the successful cooperation over the past eight years, which has undoubtedly been a key factor in making us the airline of choice for Bulgarians today."
Dr. Frank Quante, CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management JSC, shared: "We are delighted to welcome the return of Wizz Air's second based aircraft and the subsequent increase in traffic volume and connectivity! This is an important step for the entire Black Sea region in Bulgaria, both for its connectivity and tourism! Flights to Abu Dhabi are very special for us! We have been working for years to reconnect the Gulf region with the Black Sea and we are very happy that Wizz Air is taking this step! I am optimistic that even more growth will be achieved in our excellent partnership with Wizz Air!"
