Wizz Air, EMEA’s most environmentally sustainable airline1, today has welcomed its state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft that will serve the newly established base at Bucharest Băneasa - Aurel Vlaicu International Airport. With the second base opened today in the capital and an additional aircraft operating from August 1st at Bucharest Otopeni, these developments aim to greatly increase connectivity between Romania and other countries both in Europe and beyond.
Bucharest is of high importance to Wizz Air, and the airline is excited to continue its rapid expansion with these new aircraft, while providing more smart travel options with additional low-fare seats for this summer season: nearly 913 thousand seats to its summer 2025 schedule in Bucharest, growing 22% compared to the same period last year.
Today, April 1st, Wizz Air started based operations from Bucharest Baneasa Airport. In addition to the flights to Naples (Italy), Kraków (Poland), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Budapest (Hungary) and London Luton (United Kingdom), which are already in service, the airline will launch two Polish routes from Bucharest Baneasa to Warsaw on June 8th and to Wroclaw on December 6th. Tickets are already on sale on wizzair.com and the airline’s official app, with prices starting from 248 RON. This expansion reflects Wizz Air’s dedication to serving the evolving needs of travellers in Romania, providing them with more choices and flexibility for leisure or business travel, as well as visiting friends and family abroad.
Additionally, the new aircraft that will serve the operations at Bucharest Otopeni will begin flying to three new routes this next summer: Gran Canaria (Spain) on June 17th, to Frankfurt Hahn (Germany) on August 1st, and to Friedrichshafen (Germany) on August 2nd. Prices start from as low as 29.99 EUR. The airline will also increase frequency of nine existing routes to Dortmund, Memmingen, Stuttgart, Nice, Basel, Madrid, Malaga, Lyon and Pisa.
