2 BASED AIRCRAFT, 14 NEW ROUTES, MORE THAN 1 MILLION NEW EXTRA SEATS
Wizz Air, one of the leading airlines in Montenegro, is proud to announce that it will open is 36th base in Podgorica, marking a significant further growth in the country and a transformative milestone for Montenegro’s aviation sector and economy.
Starting March 2026, Wizz Air will gradually station two modern Airbus A321neo aircraft in Podgorica and launch 14 new routes connecting the capital to key European cities including Basel Mulhouse, Paris, Baden Baden, Cologne, Hamburg, Rome, Maastricht, Barcelona, Ljubljana, Malmo, Gdansk, Poznan, Rzeszow, and Wroclaw. This expansion adds 1 million additional seats annually and positions Podgorica as a dynamic gateway to Europe. Tickets are already on sale at wizzair.com and via WIZZ mobile app.
With this move, Wizz Air reinforces its role as the #1 airline at Podgorica Airport and moves up to being the #1 carrier in Montenegro overall. The base opening is anticipated to create 80 direct jobs and support 700 indirect positions, stimulating local employment and boosting tourism, trade, and connectivity.
Since launching its first flight from Podgorica to Bergamo in August 2016, Wizz Air has carried nearly 2 million passengers in Montenegro. In 2025 alone, the airline offers 402,000 seats (+12.6% YoY) and expects to welcome more than 360,000 passengers, with an impressive 99.8% flight completion rate and a 18.1% improvement in on-time performance.
József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air: “Wizz Air is deeply committed to Montenegro’s future – by expanding affordable travel options for its citizens, supporting sustainable aviation through modern, fuel-efficient aircraft, driving growth in tourism and related industries, and enhancing Podgorica’s role as a regional transport hub. We are proud to deepen our roots in Podgorica and bring more opportunities to the people of Montenegro. This base is more than an operational expansion – it’s a long-term investment in the future of Montenegrin mobility, economy, and global reach.”
