Wizz Air, EMEA’s most environmentally sustainable airline*, has announced that it now accepts American Express (Amex) as a payment method for flight bookings and onboard purchases, offering greater flexibility and convenience for both corporate and leisure customers.
In line with the airline’s Customer first compass initiative, Wizz Air is continuing to broaden its payment ecosystem to meet the needs of a growing and increasingly diverse customer base. The integration of Amex means that travellers across Europe and beyond who prefer to spend on their American Express Cards – including business travellers - can now seamlessly book flights or pay for services using their preferred method.
Welcoming the spending power of Amex’s loyal Cardmembers complements Wizz Air’s wider digital innovation strategy, aimed at simplifying the booking and flying experience for its over 70 million annual passengers.
For American Express, the agreement with Wizz Air adds to its rapidly expanding merchant acceptance and means that Amex payments are now accepted by all notable airlines across Europe. All Wizz Air services, from flight tickets to onboard products, are now available for purchase with Amex on the Wizz Air website and mobile app. Exclusive offers and discounts will also be available via the Amex Offers platform in the near future for American Express Cardmembers.
Ian Malin, Chief Financial Officer at Wizz Air, said: “We are excited to offer American Express as a payment option to our passengers across Europe. Many corporate travellers prefer Amex, so this ensures they can enjoy our ultra-low fares and extensive route network with greater ease and flexibility. American Express is a globally trusted name in payments, and this integration reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers, while also enabling smoother transactions at every stage of their journey with Wizz Air."
Dan Edelman, UK General Manager, Merchant Services at American Express, added: ““We are committed to ensuring our Cardmembers can use their Card wherever they live, work and travel. We’re delighted that American Express is now accepted by Wizz Air, one of Europe’s leading low-cost airlines. This agreement gives our Cardmembers travelling for both leisure and on business greater flexibility when spending with Wizz Air and further cements our strong merchant acceptance across airlines and beyond.”
Founded in 2003, Wizz Air operates nearly 800 routes across Europe and beyond and continues to grow its footprint in both established and emerging markets.
*According to the CAPA – Centre for Aviation Awards for Excellence 2022-2024, which benchmarks global airlines emissions intensity data and positions Wizz Air as the airline with the lowest co2 per RPK compared to other global and European airlines.
