Wizz Air, EMEA’s most environmentally sustainable airline1, celebrates its most important achievements to date, proudly transporting 100 million passengers from Romania, one of its core markets. With a significant expansion throughout over 18 years, the airline has seven bases in the country and offers over 173 routes from 13 Romanian airports, connecting passengers to 71 destinations across 22 countries. Wizz Air is Romania’s largest air operator, having continuously invested in route network development to connect the country to the rest of Europe and beyond.
To mark this occasion, Romanian passengers travelling this week (March 31st - April 6th) with Wizz Air will have the chance to be randomly selected and win one of the 100 surprise vouches of EUR 30, on the airline’s flights from all bases across the country – Bucharest Baneasa, Bucharest Otopeni, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iasi, Sibiu and Timisoara – subject to the terms and conditions at the end of this document. Also, departing to Milan Malpensa from Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport, passengers of flight W4 3063 were welcomed to celebrate and capture this moment before boarding.
Mauro Peneda, General Manager of Wizz Air Malta, said: “Proving Wizz Air’s relentless commitment to the Romanian market, we celebrate today the astounding number of 100 million passengers that chose to travel with us since 2006. This is a great milestone that comes in yet another year of important growth for the airline on the local market. We want to say a big « Thank you! » to all Romanians that step on board our aircraft every day. We have demonstrated our unwavering commitment to providing smart air travel and remain committed to the Romanian market”.
In 2025 alone, the airline will open a new base at Bucharest Baneasa, with one aircraft and seven routes to commerce throughout this year, will base its 20th aircraft and start operations on three new routes at Bucharest Otopeni (now the largest base in the WIZZ network), will base its second aircraft and introduce new and relaunched routes from each Craiova and Sibiu, and will start two new routes from Cluj-Napoca.
Since beginning its Romanian operations in 2006, Wizz Air has steadily increased its investment, recognizing the country as a pivotal market. These recent expansions reflect Wizz Air’s dedication to serving the evolving needs of travellers in Romania, providing them with more choices and flexibility for leisure or business travel, as well as visiting friends and family abroad.
