Wizz Air, the most environmentally sustainable airline in the EMEA* region, today marks 8 years of successful operations at its base in the seaside capital. This is the airline’s first summer base in Bulgaria and since 2017 it has served more than 4,8 million passengers to and from Varna, providing affordable travel options to a total of 13 destinations to 6 countries.
In April 2025, the airline based a second Airbus A321neo aircraft in the seaside capital, reinforcing its commitment to the region and increasing capacity in response to growing demand.
Currently, the carrier provides seats for sale to 13 destinations in 6 countries to and from Varna, namely: Belgium (Brussels Charleroi), Germany (Berlin, Dortmund, Memmingen, Frankfurt Hahn, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Leipzig), Israel (Tel Aviv), Italy (Milan Bergamo), the United Kingdom (London Luton, London Gatwick), and the Netherlands (Eindhoven).
Wizz Air is the only airline offering flights from Varna to Milan Bergamo (on Tuesdays and Saturdays), to Eindhoven (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), as well as the sole carrier with a direct connection between Varna and London – with daily flights during the whole year.
“Eight years of partnership and sustainable development in Varna are proof of the strong connection between Wizz Air and the region. We are proud to hold 20% of market share in this city and carried almost 300 thousand passengers this year. We are pleased to offer connectivity and travel opportunities to our customers, who are travelling for work, leisure or visiting their relatives. We will continue working responsibly and smart together with our partners at Varna Airport and all passengers who choose Wizz Air for their travels,” said Anastasia Novak, Manager of Corporate Sustainability and Communications at Wizz Air.
“Wizz Air is a key partner with a significant contribution to the development of the aviation sector in Varna. Their continued expansion – including the addition of a second aircraft this spring – reflects our shared commitment to improving the airport’s connectivity and creating new opportunities for the region. We are pleased to continue growing this strong partnership and to welcome even more passengers to Varna Airport in the years ahead,” said Michael Reisch, CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.
This year the airline conducted more than 1,8 thousand flights between Varna and other destinations, completing 99.1% of the flights. With one of the best on time performance in the industry – 82,1% – the airline provides convenient and smart service to passengers on state-of art aircraft, Airbus A320 Family.
