Yerevan, Armenia, 7 May 2025: Wizz Air, EMEA’s most environmentally sustainable airline*, is delighted to announce the opening of a new base in Yerevan, Armenia. Based operations will provide passengers with direct connections to eight destinations in six countries this upcoming winter and will secure its market leadership in providing wide portfolio of routes from Armenia to Europe and beyond. Tickets are available now on wizzair.com or via the airline’s mobile app, with fares starting from only EUR 29.99.
Starting from October 2025, passengers can experience the convenience of new non-stop flights between Yerevan and Bari, Bucharest, Hamburg, Naples, Nice, Memmingen, Paphos, and Prague. Wizz Air offers easy and convenient options to visit one’s family and loved ones or enjoy a holiday in one of these exciting and beautiful cities. The airline also increases frequency of flights to Dortmund to 4 flights per week. In total, Wizz Air will operate 17 routes to 10 countries and provide over 1.2 million seats on sale for passengers in 2025.
This expansion is made possible with the opening of the 34th base in Wizz Air’s network at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport, with two state-of-art Airbus A321neo aircraft, which offers a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to previous generation aircraft, alongside a 50% reduction in noise footprint. Two thirds of Wizz Air’s fleet is comprised of these aircraft, and its average age is only 4.67 years, one of the youngest in the world.
Since the start of operations in Armenia in 2020, Wizz Air has transported over 2.2 million passengers contributing to creating nearly 2000 jobs in aviation and tourism. With the base opening, the airline is planning to hire around 100 new cabin and flight crew professionals to its team in Armenia while indirectly creating around 800 jobs in associated industries.
Roland Tischner, Managing Director at Wizz Air Hungary, said:
"Wizz Air began its operations in Armenia in 2020 with first flight from Vienna. Since then, the airline has carried more than 2.2 million passengers to and from Armenia. We are thrilled to begin our based operations from Yerevan, which is becoming the 34th base in our network, and to nearly double our offer of direct connections from the Armenian capital. This development will secure our leadership position on the market with 30% share and almost 1.2 million seats annually for passengers traveling to and from Yerevan. As we grow, we are proud to be contributing to the Armenian economy by creating jobs and enhancing connectivity for travellers."
Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Simonyan highlighted the importance of attracting international prestigious airlines with extensive transportation networks into Armenia's aviation market.
“It will contribute not only to the expansion of flight geography, but will also lead to the introduction of foreign business culture in our country. In parallel with the attraction of international prestigious airlines, we also greatly value the role of local airlines in the establishment and development of the RA aviation market. We are confident that the incorporation of international experience will promote the manifestation of competitive advantages of local airlines. We are ready to put all our efforts towards this goal,” Armen Simonyan affirmed.
