OVER 500,000 EXTRA seats
Wizz Air, one of the leading airlines in Poland, is pleased to announce the addition of the ninth aircraft to its Gdańsk base. This strategic step not only reinforces Wizz Air’s leading market position in the region but also underlines the airline’s commitment to further growth and excellence in Poland.
The expansion reflects Wizz Air’s close cooperation with Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport, a key partner in the airline’s continued development and connectivity for Pomerania and beyond. With the additional new Airbus A321neo aircraft, Wizz Air will launch five long-awaited fantastic new routes to Poprad-Tatry, Tallinn, Vilnius, Athens, and Nice connecting Gdańsk with some of Europe’s hottest leisure and cultural destinations, delivering broader choice and stronger connectivity for passengers. Tickets are already on sale at wizzair.com and via WIZZ mobile app.
Wizz Air launched operations in Gdańsk in August 2004 and, over more than two decades of successful service, has carried over 31.5 million passengers to and from the city. Building on this track record, the airline is expanding its Gdańsk base with a ninth aircraft, adding meaningful capacity to the Polish market and more low-fare travel options. Today’s announcement reinforces Wizz Air’s long-standing investment in its Polish operations, teams, and network, cementing the airline’s role as a key carrier at Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport and across Poland, with a wide range of low-fare destinations and a simple, friendly travel experience.
From January to October 2025, Wizz Air operated over 50,000 flights to and from Poland, carrying over 11 million passengers—an impressive almost 20% increase versus the same period in 2024—at a 99.8% completion rate. The ninth aircraft in Gdańsk will translate into additional capacity, greater schedules, and new destinations to meet the rising demand in the region.
At today’s press conference in Gdańsk, Wizz Air Chief Executive Officer József Váradi said: “Basing our ninth aircraft in Gdańsk is an absolute vote of confidence in Poland and in Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport. Gdańsk has long been a cornerstone of our Polish network, and this investment unlocks new routes and additional capacity while supporting the creation of more jobs, the tourism sector and the region’s connectivity. Poland remains one of Wizz Air’s most dynamic markets, and today’s decision is both a commitment to our customers and a platform for further, sustainable growth in Poland.”
“We’re glad that Wizz Air is backing Gdańsk so consistently. Five new routes—to Athens, Nice, Tallinn, Vilnius and Poprad—are great news for our passengers and proof that Pomerania has enormous travel potential. From today we can plan wonderful trips to the cradle of history in Athens, to the beautiful French Riviera in Nice, and to our neighbors to the east and south. What’s more, you’ll be able to fly to Poprad in the Slovak Tatras already for the holidays and winter break. The ninth Wizz Air aircraft based in Gdańsk is, for us, a vote of confidence and a clear signal that the carrier sees the potential of our airport. We’re pleased that together we’re developing Gdańsk as an important point on the map of European air connections,” emphasized Tomasz Kloskowski, CEO of Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport.
With today's announcement and this upcoming winter season, Wizz Air will now offer 500 thousand additional seats on 39 routes to 19 countries from Gdansk, including the recently added Billund, Bucharest, Budapest, Madrid and Catania.
